Brixton Pottery

Brixton Pottery was founded in 1987 in Wales by Alex and Tania Dufont, and for nearly 30 years have crafted hundreds of spongeware varieties. Spongeware is a process first documented in Crete 4000 years ago, where stippling (the creation of patterns through shading by layers to create varying degrees of solidity) was crafted by painting with root sponges. During the Victorian age, this Spongeware practice entered a rennaisance, and Brixton Pottery carries that Victorian rebirth to our time with the same techniques made over 150 years ago.
